Comedies starting to make a comeback????

Posted by tvtime101 on April 8, 2010

Are comedies starting to come back to the networks????   It seems that networks are starting to program comedies into their programming schedules and even made it as far as earning renewal rewards this year.

For example, ABC had a brand new comedy Wednesday with “Cougartown”, “The Middle,” “Modern Family” and “Hank.  While “Hank was extremely short lived and the rest of the remainder of the episodes were not aired, “The Middle”, “Modern Family”, & “Cougar Town” have snatched viewers and have a following.  The ratings on Wednesday night ABC are starting to pick up.  However, those three comedies are ABCs only three comedies in their entire lineup!

As for Fox, “Brothers” (football extraordinaire Michael Strahan comedy) has been renewed for its second season.  Fox, has four other comedy shows that are popular and are considered to have a “cult” like following.  However those other four comedies are animated leaving “Brothers” its only human comedy show airing currently.

NBC has two veterans “30 Rock” and “The Office”.  This year, they created many comedies and sticking with them for another season are “The Marriage Ref (Reality/Comedy), “Community” & “Parks & Recreation”.  This brings NBC to the total of 5 comedies that will be continuing to next year.

Sadly, the CW network has 0 comedies in its lineup.  The reality shows and drama shows in their demographic fill up all of their time slots, however, they should start looking for at least 1 new comedy for a pilot next year.  Not everything is always so serious and lightening things up for your viewers can be good!

CBS, the “big daddy” of comedies currently adds to our comedy lineup every year and has gotten our attention!   CBS houses comedies such as veterans “Two and a half men”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “New Adventures of Old Christine”, “Gary Unmarried”, “Rules of Engagement”, “The Big Bang Theory” and newcomer “Accidentally on Purpose”.  CBS has been fighting for comedy rights for many years.  The writing is always a laugh out loud moment.   Keep bringing us funny comedies that ensure it’s at the top of our DVR / Watch Live List.

What is your favorite comedy?

What was canceled that you wish was still around?

What re-runs of comedies (in syndication) do you still watch?
