Barbara was back from London and mentioned how on Friday’s show, the ladies all tore down the people in the royal wedding. She said she was horrified.
The first hot opic of the day was the killing of Osama bin Laden. Whoopi descried it as an auspicious day. She pointed out how every news paper mentioned it. Barbara noted how people have been calling President Obama a wimp and not strong on terror and said how Obama has been planning this. Joy called him brilliant. Hasselbeck mentioned something about Bush having passed the baton (to be honest, she was rambling so much that I could not really understand what she was trying to say). Joy thinks May 1 should be a national holiday. Sherri talked about the people coming together to celebrate us getting bin Laden, saying we are America.
ABC Correspondent Brian Ross came on to discuss the killing of Osama bin Laden. He talked about how this mission has been in the works since last year and how they tracked bin Laden’s trusted courier to the compound. Brian said there were about 3 or 4 other people. No US personel were killed or injured in the mission. Navy Seals were involved and went in for the capture. Pakistan was not alerted , this was a full undercover operation. And they succeeded.
After the killing, they took bin Laden’s body out to sea. The reasoning was they wanted no place for people to memorialize bin Laden where he would be a martyr. Brian does not believe there will no longer be terrorism. However, he said this is a huge, symbolic victory for the U.S. Barbara made the comment that she would hate to be a Republican candidate for president, which seemed to bother Hasselbeck. She replied how she refuses to politicize this event and wants no part of this. She – of all people – actually said that. Joy had a huge smile on her face, saying how she loves our president.
They then talked to Michael Lomaonaco, former executive chef to the restaurant “Windows of the World”. WOW was located on the twin towers, one of the sites that was hit on 911. Normally he would have been working but he needed to repair his reading glasses that day in a shop that was located on the lower level of the building. He said he felt a rumble in the building and they then evacuated the building. The full staff plus customers were among those that died in his restaurant. He described the establishment as very diverse and people from all over the world that worked there. Michael said he was stunned hearing Osama was dead. He said a mastermind of evil is gone and its one for the good guys.
James Todd Smith better known as LL Cool J (abbreviation for Ladies Love Cool James) was the first guest to appear. LL is a rapper and actor. He is known for romantic ballads such as “I Need Love”, “Around the Way Girl” and “Hey Lover” as well as pioneering hip-hop such as “I Can’t Live Without My Radio”, “I’m Bad”, “The Boomin’ System”, and “Mama Said Knock You Out”.
LL currently stars as NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna on the CBS crime drama television series NCIS: Los Angeles. He plays a former Navy Seal and had actually met with special ops guys. He talked about how the guys put their life on the line.
They showed the past clip of LL being on the show and bench pressing the ladies. He was told what great shape he is in and asked if he has any “cheat” days. LL said, yes, he loves ice cream.
LL also discussed living in Hollywood, his children and his wife’s new jewelry line, Simone R. Smith. He gave the hosts necklaces from the line as gifts.
NCIS: Los Angeles airs Tuesday nights.
Andrew Schorr appeared next. Andrew is the author of the book “The Web Savvy Patient” . In it, he explores topics such as wading through search engine results, connecting with online communities, defining conditions, identifying the specialists, and organizing the outcome of your research so that doctors will listen. Andrew said He also said this is a sigificant moment in American time. Andrew credits the internet for helping diagnnose his rare leukemia and said he’d be dead had he not done so.
Beth Mays and her son, Charlie, we there as well. Beth used the internet to save her son from an incurable disease. She said it took months for her to get answers and was misdiagnosed many times. Using the internet, she found a specialists that knew how to treat his disease. Chalie said he’s doing fine; he loves to build legos and playing video games.
Andrew advises people to: be smart on the internet but be skeptical, put emotions aside and look at facts, and treat your doctor appointments like a business meeting.
That concludes today’s show. Have a great day!
You know…there’s a…I think uh…I actually have a friend…who…one of his closest friends is on the joint special operations command unit that went in there. And I got some information today and there was…he said…keep in mind please that this started..I mean…President Obama did an exceptional job in his pursuit of this since all last August when he had this information…he said that it actually began to…um…with their work in Guantanamo and…there was a detained Al Quaida operative there that gave up two brothers who were the carriers? for bin Laden. So this is …oh…sorry…couriers for bin Laden…and this has been something that could have been brushed off but I have to credit the Obama administration for continuing this pursuit and taking the baton from the Bush administration- neither of these men wanted to bear this burden neither of them would ask for this but to go ahead and ACT on it is outstanding and so I think…-Elisabeth Hasselbeck
