On Today’s Show: Sherri’s birthday celebration, Jaleel White, Charlie Wilson, Self Beauty Awards

Hosts at the table: Whoopi, Joy, Sherri, Elisabeth, Barbara

You would think with it being Sherri’s birthday, that would be the first mention of the day, right? Wrong.
Barbara started off discussing how she went to see Sister Act and praising Whoopi. Boy, Whoopsie must have incriminating pics of Barbara the way she was lauding the show. Hasselbeck joined in on the sucking up, calling the show “uplifting”.

Whoopi finally got around to acknowledging Sherri by saying how nice she looked in purple. That was when Sherri announced it was her favorite color and it’s her birthday.Sherri had a fedora on that upcoming guest, Charlie Wilson, gave to all the hosts.

Next topic was Barbara snagging an interview with Elton John and his partner. It also features their baby, who was born via surrogate. Her interview will air tonight on 20/20.

Sarah Ramirez was the first guest. She sang Happy Birthday to Sherri and it sounded great. Sara Ramírez is a Singer/Songwriter and actress. She is known for her role as Callie Torres in Grey’s Anatomy She said it’s a gift being on Grey’s Anatomy, as she is her favorite show on TV. Her character has had a roller coaster ride on the show and Sarah said you just have to hold on to your seat and go with it. She said her character sees past gender and thinks it’s beautiful to see the relationship she has with her lesbian lover. She also said she is so lucky to be working with the talented cast on the show.
In addition to acting, Sara has an album available in iTunes. She said it’s really thrilling and is a great opportunity to continue to develop herself as a music artist.

The next guest to appear was Self magazine editor Lucy Danziger. Lucy was there to show the best beauty products chosen by readers that cost under $25. They were:

Whoopi again. (sigh)

They had one more product that they were unable to get to because they were out of time. Gee, I wonder why?

For the “Where Are They Now?” segment, actor Jaleel White appeared. Jaleel is best known for his role as Steve Urkel on “Family Matters”. He said his mom put him in show business so he could have money to go to college. Jaleel said he had planned to quit acting so he could play basketball in school but then got the part for the show. He was Steve from the age of 12 to 21 years old. At one point, Barbara actually asked him to fall (like he’s done as his character on the show). Whoopi stepped in and asked him when was the last time he fell. Jaleel seemed grateful for the chance to bow out of that ridiculous request.
It’s been 13 years since the end of the show and in that time, Jaleel graduated from UCLA. He also writes and has appeared in various movies. His latest role is in the movie “”Judy Moody and Not Bummer Summer”, playing a teacher. He said it should be a fun movie.
Jaleel was asked about child stars in trouble and how he did not fall down that path. He attributed his success to his parents, saying they were the type that teachers would say “I’m going to call your parents”. He said they were humble and loves them so much.

In honor of Sherri’s birthday, singer Charlie Wilson appeared to perform for her. Charlie was part of the Gap Band, which is most notable for the song “You Dropped the Bomb on Me”. He is singing solo now, with a new record “Just Charlie“. He sang the song “You Are” He sounded really good.
Charlie has an album before this titled “Charlie, Last Name Wilson“. My favorite songs are “No Words” and “Floatin” (Justin Timberlake and Will.I.Am are on that one too). I can’t say enough great things about that one – it’s really good. That’s one of my most favorite CDs and I highly recommend it. The guy is a great singer.

They closed the show by bringing out an elaborately decorated cake for Sherri. It looked delicious. Oh and in case you missed the top of the show, Barb reminded us to watch her 20/20 interview with Elton John.

That concludes today’s show. Have a great day!
