The first topic of the day was Jennifer Lopez being voted the Most Beautiful Person by People magazine. When asked what she attributes her winning looks, she said she thinks it’s due to her having a lot of love in her life. They showed various pictures of her over the years where she still looked gorgeous. Hasselbeck said she liked how open Jennifer was in describing her beauty regimines. Sherri thinks when you’re in a happy marriage, it brings out something in you. Joy doesn’t believe that to be true, saying she never looked better until after her divorce. Barb pointed out that in the same magazine issue, they had a section called “Beautiful Minds”. The three picks were Anna Patton, Tatiana Ali and Jordana Brewster., all of whom had gone to college. Barb questioned whether you have to have gone to college to have a beautiful mind. She also said all of them have beautiful minds. (El Oh El)
Next topic was a 19 year old American Idol fan who says she was told she was not allowed to sit in the front row of the studio because she was fat. Hasselbeck noted that no one around her heard this and it’s tough to prove. Barb said they don’t do that because they have the most beautiful audience.
They then talked about the outrage that has erupted in D.C. over the ban of chocalate milk in schools. Proponents argue that it has been a good source for Vitamin D. Officials say the high fructose corn syrup makes it an unhealthy alternative. Joy wonders why they can’t have milk with the Hershey’s syrup. Whoopi talked about high fructose corn syrup, the controversy surrounding it and how we’ve started using it in place of sweetner because it’s cheap. She noted that it is not used in Europe. Barb said this has become a political issue with and talked about First Lady’s campaign to combat childhood obesity. Whoopi said she doesn’t want the government to tell her she can’t eat Fritos. Hasselbeck talked about Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution show where he talks about childhood obesity and how much sugar is in lunches. Whoopi said if parents are concerned with what their kids are eating, they should speak up. She said Jaimie came all the way over from London to address this and is being shut down. Joy said it’s probably just as bad in England and they are not known for healthy food.
After break, they discussed a 6 year old girl who was subjected to a pat down by the TSA. Her parents say they had asked for an alternatives but were denied. Sherri said when she takes Jeffrey to travel, she tells him the agents are playing a game by looking in his pockets. Joy asked her what about when you tell them not to allow strangers to touch you? Hasselbeck said if she had to watch her kids get patdown she would want to pat them right back.
They then discussed Lindsey Lohan wanting to play the role of Victoria Gotti in an upcoming movie. Apperently she just “showed up” for the audition and Barb thinks it was a great publicity stunt. Sherri thinks Lohan is a great actress and she’d like to see her do what she does.
A JCrew executive has some parents in an uproar because she was photographed painting her son’s toes pink (someone please pass me by smelling salts and fainting couch!) Whoopi did not understand why people are so upset about th
The first guest to appear was s. Barb explained that people feel that it will make the boy gay. Sherri said she won’t paint Jeffrey’s toenails cuz he’s a boy and does not need his toes painted. She then seemed to go on the defensive, saying how Jeffrey sees her getting makeup on and wants his done too and how she tells him no because that’s for mommy. Joy sorta scoffed at her which seemed to make her get even more defensive. Remember, this is the same woman who would not allow her son to read a book about two male penguins who took care of a baby penguin.
Sugar Ray Leonard was voted off of Dancing with the Stars last night.
The first guest to appear was Ricky Gervaise. Ricky is a comedian, actor, director, producer, musician and writer.
Gervais achieved mainstream fame with his television series The Office(best. show. ever.). and the subsequent series Extras, both of which he co-wrote and co-directed with friend and frequent collaborator Stephen Merchant. In addition to writing and directing the shows, Gervais also played the lead roles of David Brent in The Office and Andy Millman in Extras. Gervais has also starred in a number of Hollywood films, assuming leading roles in Ghost Town and The Invention of Lying. He has performed on four sell-out stand-up comedy tours, written the best-selling Flanimals book series and starred with Merchant an Karl Pilkington in the most downloaded podcast in the world as of March 2009, “The Ricky Gervais Show”*. Ricky came out and just sat down. When Joy asked if he does not like being touched, he said he was told to keep it quick and sit down. So then Joy and Barb started pawing all over him. Ick.
Ricky addressed being attacked for the things he said at the Golden Gobe Awards Show last year. He said he was rude but was suprised he was attacked. He explained his joke about the “Sex and the City” airbrushed poster, saying it was not sexist and he felt they should not hide how they really look. Ricky says he stands by the joke and if you criticize, you should at least understand it. He said the contriversy has not hurt the viewership of his other shows. He also talked about his atheism and how people who win awards always thank God, even though there are earthquakes and othe disasters going on in the world. Barb sought to clarify that Sandra Bullock never said that and the hosts quickly explained that he did not say Sandra did.
Hasselbeck talked about Gervais’ HBO special “Talking Funny” where he hosts Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld and Louis C.K. She asked why there was no women on the panel. He asked who would you take off to replace with a woman. She said none. He said “There you go”.
He then said men are intimidated by funny women so they did not want them in the room. He then explained to Barb that it was a joke, to which she said she takes everything he says seriously.
Ricky addressed Charlie Sheen’s latest comedy tour, saying he knows Sheen is not a stand-up comedian and is going through a phase. He’s worried that Sheen is being exploited.
Barb turned to ask him a question about “The Office” and Whoopi said Ricky looked a little scared. He said Barb told him backstage that they were going to have fun and sort of shook her pointed her finger at him. She then got all in his face and then hugged all on him.
“Talking Funny” airs Friday April 22.
I loved that interview because Ricky was three steps ahead of them. He was also very entertaining and funny, especially when he told about Barbara backstage.
The final guest to appear was Abby Sunderland. Abby is a sailor who, in 2010, attempted to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world. On her first attempt, Abby experienced problems with the mechanicals on her boat. She ended up stopping the trip, eight days after she started. Her second attempt Abby ran into uncertain weather issues, which caused rough waves. Abby suffered a knock-down and barely avoided an accidental jibe. On June 12, 2010, she was rescued by a French commercial fishing vessel, 2 days into her attempt*. She said she always loved to sail and this was the ultimate challenge. She coped with being alone but said you learn to deal with that when you grow up sailing and around it.
Abby was there to discuss her book “Unsinkable: A Young Woman’s Courageous Battle on the High Seas“. The biography delivers a gripping and evocative firsthand account that starts prior to her departure, travels through her daring (and sometimes near-death) encounters on the open sea, to her dramatic rescue in the remotest corner of the Indian Ocean, and the media explosion that happened upon her safe return to dry land (Source: Amazon.com) . Abby said her parents would not allow her to sail around the world at 13 years old and they would not let her until they knew she was ready. She then waited for 3 years, training during that time. She said there is a differnet mindset out on the ocean but the most important thing is to control where your mind goes and your emotions.
That concludes today’s show. Have a great day!
